Below you'll find a list of frequently asked questions, which aims to answer some of the more common queries we are asked. If there's anything else you need to know, that isn't covered here, please don't hesitate to call us on 0115 841 0773.
- How do I apply for Dance4CAT?
- If you think the Dance4's CAT may be for you then why not start your future dance career by downloading an application form here.
Or, come to one of our taster workshops for more information. For more information contact Kirsten Jeavons on kirsten@dance4.co.uk or call us on 0115 941 0773. For more information on dates, times and locations of the workshops click onto the Dance4's CAT Diary.
To book a place on a workshop in your area please contact Kirsten Jeavons on 0115 941 0773 or email kirsten@dance4.co.uk - Where and when are the taster sessions?
- These will be scattered around the region during spring 2010. They are free sessions and as well as a chance to dance, they will tell you all you need to know about the Dance4's CAT and other Youth Dance opportunities. Please see our Apply Section.
- How old do you have to be to apply for the Dance4's CAT?
- We are actively recruiting students that will be 11 - 18 yeas old in September 2010, however applications are accepted outside this age range in certain circumstances.
- Does it matter if you haven't had a lot of experience in dance?
- Not necessarily. We are looking for exceptional potential, so it's not necessary to have had lots of experience already. We do however, want to see if you can demonstrate the creativity, dedication and enthusiasm to pursue a career in dance.
- What about School?
- CAT's are designed to fit around your schoolwork, and in the first year you will only need to attend sessions on Saturday's (all day) and intensive's that take place during the school holiday. This means you will still have plenty of time to do your homework.
- What about the other dance classes that I already do?
- It's important that you continue with a range of other activities, including other dance styles. You will however, need to be able to attend ALL the classes on the scheme, and you may need to consider how you manage your time.
- I like dancing, but I am not sure yet whether I would like to pursue it as a career. Should I apply?
- If you don't think you could commit the time and effort it takes, this is probably not the right course for you - but don't stop dancing - this is one of many pathways into a career in dance. See our Youth Dance pages to find out more ways to get involved.
- What will I have to do at the audition?
- The first audition will consist of practical dance sessions containing creative work and contemporary technique. If shortlisted, you will then be invited back to the second stage containing more practical sessions and an interview.
- What is covered by the cost of the course?
- The cost of the course includes provision on the CAT, theatre trips and medical support. More information about the financial side of the scheme can be found in the Costs & Funding section (link)or on the Music and Dance Scheme website: www.dcsf.gov.uk/mds.
- How long does the course last for?
- You would be assessed continually throughout your time on the course and we hope to be able to support you right through to the point that you go on to further vocational training. However, if you and/or the course leaders decide that the programme is no longer right for you, you will be positively supported off the course and are directed to other progression routes.
